How To Encourage Kids To Exercise
03/20/2013 10:44We all know fitness is important but some of us really need to know how to encourage kids to exercise. We especially need to know this information if our kids are a little older and the ideals of exercise wasn't passed to them at a young age.
I'm sorry but long gone are the days when you can just tell your kids to go play outside. You see, when I was a kid that was totally legit and just about all kids loved going outside.
We all naturally ran around, rode bikes, played sports and went exploring. It was safer back then and parents didn't need to watch out for "bad guys". Did you know I like on a populated neighborhood street with lots of kids and I might see a kid riding a bike once or twice during the whole summer. That is just dumbfounding to me.
I see some kids playing basketball occasionally and that's great but otherwise the kids aren't outside. What's going on!
Should I suspect they're exercising inside in some way, shape or form? Probably not.
You know the statistics surrounding child obesity. What is your guess as to what kids are doing? I can tell you because I know.
Kids of all different shapes and sizes are watching hours and hours of TV, playing video games and talking on the phone. Not good!
I think the best way to encourage kids is to first be an example. That's right. Mom and dad need to show children that exercise can be fun. Do it yourselves at first and then gradually invite them to join you. How about hiking!
I also believe heavily in parents educating their own children. They aren't going to get all the facts at school or with their friends. Dont' be afraid to talk to them about the issues that may arise if they become unhealthy.
You should also know their interests. This will help you come up with ideas that will get them to exercise. If you know your child loves kicking the soccer ball around then enrolling them on a team might be the next step.
You see where I'm going with this?

Exercise Facts For Kids
03/18/2013 17:53I have some very important exercise facts for kids I want to share with you. It's important information that should serve to motivate you and I to make some changes with our family.
So many more kids are suffering from childhood obesity symptoms, tooth decay, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes to just name a few.
There are two main reasons why kids are in the health they are in. They have a poor diet and they don't exercise enough.
Daily exercise for kids is helpful in many ways.
- It helps them reach and maintain a healthy weight
- Improves attention span
- Improves attitude
- Improves sleeping at night
- Improves grades at school
Here is one fact you must know. Kids do not like hard movements or adult exercises. They like fun activities and if it happens to involve exercise of some sort they are all for it.
Did you know that increased exercise for kids is associated with increased life span and a decreased risk of cardiovascular disease?
Let's say there is some resistence to exercise from your children. Did you know the following are their excuses?
- Not cool
- My family doesn't exercise
- Only boys exercise
- Being sweaty is gross
- Playing on the computer is much more fun
The fact is that exercise is very good for our children and not exercising is very bad.
I think if we just had enough fitness ideas for our kids we could implement a fun program that they will love to participate in.
